Freebie: Popsicle Invite!

I am so excited about celebrating the 4th of July this year.
My grandmother is visiting from South Africa and this will be her first time celebrating the 4th with us.

We are headed to one of our favorite spots with crystal clear springs and amazing fireworks!

Since we are headed to the water, I thought that these FREE summer Popsicle invitations would be perfect for our friends and family. Click on the link above to download yours today!
Cut out the Popsicle stick on your printed copy, or for a fun twist, glue a real Popsicle stick in between the front and back of your invitation! Find real Popsicle sticks at your local craft store.

You can also use these for your own summer party, pool party, slip and slide splash or any variation thereof.

Love to all my readers!

Ahoy! It's a Boy! Sail boat babyshower.

This was such a fun baby shower that I did for a client of mine.
She was looking for something that incorporated some blues, greens and whites.

I spent some time looking for inspiration and I ran across beautiful blue and white seersucker fabric.
I had some custom made table runners made that I placed atop white tablecloths.

I added a fun white shutter atop the runner and placed an extra wide, shallow glass bowl on the shutter. It's was playfully accentuated with blue stones and a little floating sail boat.

My clients table was unusually long, so I added visual interest to the table to balance out the centerpiece by adding three bunches of flowers in mason jars on each side of the shutter.

I found some amazing paper plates and napkins that complimented the shower to a tee!

I set up the shower the day before the event, due to some traveling plans so I wasn't able to capture the completed look with the mason jars and cupcake toppers. My client set out the cupcakes and toppers on the day of the event to make sure that they stayed fresh.

The invitations, cupcake toppers, cupcake wrappers, banner and drink flags were custom made for this shower.

Be back soon :)

I apologize to all of my readers for being lackadaisical over the past few weeks in updating blog posts.

I've been blessed by staying busy!

Amongst all of my projects, I've also been hired as an event planner at a local catering company here in town! Mojo Grill and Catering has a new member on their team and I'm super excited to see where this will take me and my career!

I've been keeping busy with having a website designed for me.
Take a look:
www.MGEvents.co

I've also finished working on a Crossfit competition event here in Ocala.
I attended a beautiful bridal show at Jumbolair, in Ocala. It was great seeing some familiar brides and other faces.

I've been working on a baby shower for a little boy. I can't wait to share pictures!

Some new projects that I'm working on, include designing another tablescape for the Family Times Magazine! I am so honored to be asked to do something for the third time in a row!

I have a first birthday that I will start planning once we come back from our beach vacation in the next few weeks. I am also starting to gather some fun materials for a wine glass painting class that I will be co-teaching with Sheila Ramos from Artist Hub of Ocala!

Honeybee's and Mason Jars

I was playing around on Pinterest a few days ago and I came across this super fun idea!

I've seen plenty of thumb print ideas for baby showers but I haven't seen any for bridal showers.

This is so personalized and is something that you can frame.
You can also buy a beautiful canvas for a more modern look and hang it for everyone to see.

For a complete honeybee theme, send me an email to plan your event today!

Little Gentleman's Sailboat Shower

I've been dying to turn some of 2013's clothing fashion into a shower.
Well I've been given the opportunity to do so with an upcoming baby shower for a little gentleman!

I've been going back and forth with two different themes... vintage cars or seersucker and sailboats (think Polo Ralph Lauren in 3D)!
For the seersucker and sailboat theme, I'm thinking amazing blue seersucker fabric runners atop white tablecloths. I'm having visions of soft greens accenting the blue and white by incorporating it into the cupcake toppers.

What about adding some fun paper flags to some baby blue stripped paper straws?

Inspiration for this event stemmed from spending hours walking up and down the isles of my favorite fabric store.

I started playing around with some invitations and came across something that can be completely customized for this baby shower.

Although this isn't the actual invitation that my client will be using, it will be every similar.

MG Events can work with you have your perfect custom made invitation for your perfectly customizable event.

Mother's Day Ideas!

I was a little quiet over the last few weeks since I was out of town with my husband on a business trip to California. I couldn't help but imagine what amazing weddings and events some of those big cities put off!

While we enjoyed some fabulous and much needed R&R, my brain was spinning with ideas on what to do for this upcoming Mother's Day.

I posted a great, free Mother's Day printable set a few weeks ago that you can find here.

I also thought that this Mother's Day Room Service idea was fabulous!

You can create your own Mother's Day room service breakfast tag in a Word document.
Add some of her favorite breakfast items or add something like a breakfast mimosa bar, handpicked blueberries from your local blueberry farm or a egg and sausage breakfast burrito.

Customize it with a different twist by adding gift ideas:
Pedicure at her favorite spa
Lunch at a swanky little bistro
New pair of summer wedges to go with her denim capris
Or, my personal favorite, a photo shoot with your mom and yourself and your girls (if you have any).
* This is a great little tradition that I started for Mother's Day. It's a great opportunity to get all of my sisters together along with my twin girls, my mom and myself.

Ocala Star Banner Interview

Facts

MELISSA GALLOWAY

Title: Owner of MG Events
Phone: 352-233-8759
Web: MelissaGallowayEvents.blogspot.com

How she got into the business: “I was a pre-med major, but woke up one day and it was like a light switch that went off. It was scary and I wondered, ‘What will I do?’ So I changed my major to psychology. After school, I had my twins; now they are 15 months old. I started in January, but have been doing events for friends and family for three years. I always liked doing special things for family birthdays and it just kind of snowballed into baby showers for friends.”
What she does: “I do the pretty stuff, like the decor and the centerpieces. For the Cattle Baron’s Ball I just decorated, but for past events I did plan (the event) and decorate. No event is the same, so whatever a client needs I will provide the service for them. I meet with clients to come up with ideas, themes, depending on the wedding, baby shower or birthday. I also do bridal showers, religious celebrations, rehearsals — any event.”

What sets her apart: “I have a blog. I use Pinterest and I follow (other) blogs and see things that are inspirational. I always have ideas ready so when I have an opportunity to try it with a client I can present them with options. I’m an open canvas — some people don’t know what they want and come to me and I can help them, or some people do know what they want but don’t know how to start.”

How she came to Ocala: “I was born and raised in South Africa and grew up bilingual. My mom was a pharmacist and got recruited to work in Ocala when I was 14. I didn’t really have (culture shock), but I grew up in a small private school and had the same friends since kindergarten, then transferred into a school with so many people. I stayed (in Ocala) because it was such a big move that I didn’t want to relive the experience and relearn everything — I’m happy here.”

Best part about the job: “No event is the same as the last one and there is a new challenge in every event. I enjoy the chaotic stress, especially when it is crunch time. Some people play sports; this is my outlet. I’m crafty and I was always doing projects at home before I had the kids, like scrapbooking and making cards, so now it is just on a grander scale. I pick the projects that appeal to me and invest my time to make it a priority, although my kids are still my first priority.”

How she works: “In this industry you don’t have to have a storefront. A lot of (the work) is computer work so it’s convenient to work at home. A lot of the ideas I show clients are in the computer or I am running around meeting outside vendors. I work with two caterers I would recommend because I trust them. I work with certain photographers because I know their work and I work with one florist — this industry is all about building relationships.”

What people don’t know: “It’s affordable and can be for anyone’s budget. There are misconceptions that (someone) can’t afford to have a planner for an event or wedding. My party packages start at $150 and weddings start at $1,500. Anything from selecting invitations to whole event planning — from just one item to a complete project.”
